in the mists
Singing Agathe
The veil between worlds seems thinner today, so Zipper and I took a walk alongside the memory of Buttons. I listened for his bark, but found silence. I watched for the flip of his tail, but saw only a wash of grey. I called out to him, heart broken and heavy with guilt - the guilt that I, who had taken on the wonderful burden of guardianship, could not keep death at bay, and in that I failed him. No comfort nor condemnation found me in the misty streets. It was only Zipper and me, and the memory of my sweet baby boy alongside us.
