NaNoWriMo 2012 - Day 14
The Dime
Once again, I missed a day, so there is no day 13.

After Monday's insanely awesome session, I had come to a lull. As a storyteller, I wasn't sure what would happen next, but even more distressing, I wasn't sure WHO we should next follow. My narration order had collapsed, and I was okay with that. But of my five main characters (yes, I'm just going to limit it to five), none felt right for the next section.

It's one of those moments when I realize that I have absorbed a LOT about narration and storytelling from reading good stories. There was no conscious decision, no science of the story, that made me feel that none of the established perspectives could be next at bat. It was something I just felt - I had written myself into a little bit of a narrative corner, and that was causing me to hesitate moving on.

I broke through that today, with a bit of a cheat. An interlude, if you will. A shift to a set of characters that have never been met before, and may never be the subject of the narration again, but are very closely involved with the current action. It feels fresh, it feels like a nice break that will allow the reader to return to the main characters anew. And it feels like 2045 words, which at this point is a damn hallelujah if you ask me!
