Fae in the trees
The Dime
I could probably look this up myself, but it seems like something that some member of my friends list would know about:

Is there a word or phrase to describe the human tendency to 'see' human faces in inanimate objects? Gnarled faces in stumps, Virgin Marys in your toast, fleeting glimpses of figures in the the woods or in the shadows of your house. I imagine such things are tied to our being hardwired to recognize a thousand minute difference between human faces. Just curious to know if anyone knows any more.

I think it's less a phrase than just a recognized phenomenon.

Thanks much for that link! It's good to know that it's recognized and studied in a scientific manner, instead of just being chalked up to 'the crazy human mind'.

I think the Carl Sagan remarks in both those articles are the originators of my thoughts on the issue. Thanks.
