On Smoking
The Rage
I don't like cigarettes. I don't smoke myself, I think it's an expensive and deadly habit, and it affects more than just the person smoking. I'd like to believe that I'm rather tolerant about it, though. Yes, I think it's dumb, but I'm certainly not going to infringe on someone's right to do it. Smoke outside all you want, smoke in the designated areas as much as you can. Hell, if I end up in a smoking room in a hotel, or the smoking section of a restaurant, it's not going to be the end of my world.

The one thing that pisses me off more than anything about smoking? The goddamn cigarette butts.

If you smoke, don't drop your butts onto the ground and walk away. To do so where I can see you will infinitely lower my opinion of you.

As a smoker (albeit one in the process of quitting) I will agree 100%. That said, I feel the same about any kind of littering.

Littering in general makes me sad, but since I'm already up on my high horse: if I'm not gonna be an ass about you poisoning the very air around you, the least you can do is not throw it on the ground as a disrespectful reminder.

I love the environmentalist smokers who still litter their butts!

Maybe butts are particularly bio-degradable. I don't know. I think it's more than just earth-unfriendly. It's rude, inconsiderate and lazy.

I think this is the third or fourth time you've posted this. It means I never forget this about you.

I'm sorry for being repetitive on the subject, but I now have a 5-month puppy who likes to eat them and get sick.

No, repetitive is good. You always change it up a little - it keeps us on our toes!

to encourage people to quit smoking on the streets they post these signs that say something like... "you wouldn't put a knife in a child's eye. would you put a cigarette in their eyes?" and it has two pictures one with a guy walking around with a knife at his side and the other with a cigarette.
Effective? Who knows. Probably no.
