Birthdays
Muted Real

Today is the Boy's birthday. We're going many celebratory events throughout the weekend, so right now he's sleeping off some of the immense-alcohol-consumption-effects from last night. Having some friends over for dinner tonight, dinner for just the two of us tomorrow. Of course, today we also have to get to both of our mothers' places to wish them happy Mother's Day.

Sometimes his birthday falls on Mother's Day. I was born on Father's Day (so naturally every once in a while, they coincide again). Despite this, he refuses to accept that he will clearly be the 'Mom' once we have children. I mean, come on, he even sleeps on the 'mom' side of the bed.

There's a mom side?

Also, we should have drinks or dinner or something of the kind soon.

While it's not set in stone, the 'mom' side of the bed tends to be the side of the bed closest to the door, or with quickest access to be out the room if the kids need you. It's the way the sleeping arrangement is for my parents, at least one set of aunt/uncle, my best friend and her husband, and lots of fictional TV/movie couples.

Our weekend have been crazy of late (trying to do way too much), but we are going to forcibly hack open a window in which to see you. If not this upcoming weekend, then perhaps the weekend after?

Yes for either - just need a bit of notice. One of those weekends will probably have an apartment-warming party in it, if that helps.

Heh. My parents had the exact opposite set-up. I'm sure it was the other way when I was very young, but once I got old enough to appreciate the goldmine I had in the budding hypochondriac tendencies + physician father combo, Dad quickly became the parent of choice when I freaked out in the middle of the night (usually convinced I had a brain tumor, or an ulcer, or an anuerism, or the Black Plague).

Or it may just have been that my father was essentially on call for 10 solid years and had to be closer to the door so he could sprint halfway across the room and then fall alseep on the floor when the call came.

Who knew?

See the comment to gildeddawn. I also have some theories about the 'dad' side being closer to the window for some primal reason of 'in case a pterodactyl tries to fly into the house', but it's not as well grounded.
